THE NEW DEVELOPMENT LINES BRIEF NOTES

The development forecasts of economists and marketing experts for the agro-food industry in the next few years do not extend along a single line.
The quality of the products must be higher, they will have to be more and more flexible, lending themselves to several uses, and be easy to cook and keep.
The final price will be more and more related to these qualities. Product packaging will be affected by the new EC directives, and the challenge here will consist in creating appealing packages that can meet the new waste disposal regulations. In addition, the unsettled weather patterns that marked this last stretch of the century are also contributing to increase the strategic relevance of rice as food aid to Third World Countries. In Europe, the forecasts indicate an increase of pasta consumption (especially in Eastern Europe)as well as an increase in the sales of otherwise non-traditional varieties of rice, such as the Indica sub-specie, and parboiled rice (especially the fastcooking type).
